New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Communities
Frances "Fran" Fox-Pizzonia is a 29-year resident of Orange County, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Fran graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a BA in Psychology and from Columbia University with a Masters in Social Work. She has worked in Foster Care Prevention, as a Mental Health Counselor in Hell’s Kitchen, a home visiting Case Worker in the Bronx, a Clinic Social Worker and HIV Outreach Coordinator in Queens, and a Reproductive Rights Volunteer Coordinator in Orange County.
In 1992, Fran started a 28-year tenure at Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley (PPMHV), spending an additional year with Planned Parenthood working in Government Relations & Public Policy at Planned Parenthood Greater New York.
For 15 years at PPMHV, Fran worked in Orange County directing the TASA Case Management home visiting program for pregnant and parenting teens. She later worked in Health Center Operations and Business Development. Returning Fran also directed regional, state and local grant funded Adolescent Pregnancy and HIV Prevention Education Projects. Fran spearheaded Promotores/Community Health Worker Community Engagement Projects in Monticello, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and Kingston to address health disparities in low income and black and Latinx communities.
In 2014, Fran assumed oversight of the Public Affairs Department. Working with local, regional and statewide organizations, community groups and supporters, Fran expanded advocacy efforts for sexual and reproductive health care, education, legislation and funding and strengthened PPMHV’s role in supporting and advancing Reproductive Rights and Reproductive Justice issues impacting individuals and families in the mid-Hudson Valley.
Fran is a graduate of Leadership Orange Class of 2020. She is the recipient of the 2019 Orange County Human Rights Award and the 2018 Orange County Democratic Women Geraldine Ferraro Public Service Award.
Fran has an expansive history of volunteerism including Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, PTO Treasurer, and Basketball Coach. She served one term on the Valley Central School District Board of Education. She is Co-President of the Valley Central Scholarship Council and a Vestry Member at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Newburgh. Since March 2020, Fran has volunteered weekly at St. George’s Food Pantry and Church of the Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen. She is a member of the Orange County Democratic Women and Town of Montgomery Democratic Committee.
Fran is married to Henry Pizzonia, a High School Science Teacher. They have two adult children and have lived in Montgomery, NY for 17 years. Fran is excited to be running for the Orange County Legislature and to represent District 9.
